Mimi Farina
b. Mimi Margharita Baez, 30 April 1945, Stanford, California, USA. The younger sister of folksinger Joan Baez, Mimi was pursuing a solo career when she met and married Richard Farina. The couple began performing together in 1964 and completed two exceptional albums, CELEBRATIONS FOR A GREY DAY and REFLECTIONS IN A CRYSTAL WIND before Richard was killed in a motorcycle accident on 30 April 1966. Two years later Mimi helped compile the commemorative MEMORIES, as well as LONG TIME COMING AND A LONG TIME GONE, a collection of her husband's lyrics, poetry and short stories. Unsure of direction, Mimi later joined the Committee, a satirical theatre group, where she worked as an improvisational actor before returning to singing. Having forged a short-lived partnership with Tom Jans, which resulted in one low-key album, she resumed her solo career. Mimi later founded Bread And Roses, an organization which brought live music into convalescent homes, psychiatric wards and drug rehabilitation centres.
