Micky Finn
b. Michael Hearne. One of the more publicity shy name DJ's, Finn's ambitions stretch to writing film soundtracks rather than desiring pin-up pieces in the popular music press. His musical inclinations were established at blues parties before he got hooked by Eric B. & Rakim. He purchased his own decks and starting mixing, getting his first paid engagement at the Tunnel Club, near Blackwall Tunnel (run by his sister Nancy, who first invoked the Finn nickname). From such humble beginnings in 1988 he progressed to the Genesis and Biology nights. He recorded a solo track, She's Breaking Up, for US label Focus in January 1991, before going on to remix for a multitude of labels including Suburban Base, ffrr, Champion and PWL ( Mandy Smith's I Just Can't Wait, of all things). A more representative example of his work would be his contribution to Urban Shakedown with friends Gavin King and Claudio Guissani on Some Justice, which enabled it to become a real chart contender (despite problems obtaining clearance for the sample of Ce Ce Rogers’ Someday). He remains a huge name on the DJ circuit.
