Larry 'Wild Man' Fischer
b. 1945. Fischer was a prominent fixture on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip during the late '60s. This imposing figure, part-eccentric, part-LSD casualty, was renowned for composing songs to order in return for small change. He became associated with Frank Zappa who produced Larry's uncompromising debut, AN EVENING WITH WILD MAN FISCHER. Contemporary opinion was divided on its merits. Some critics deemed it voyeuristic, while others proclaimed it a work of art and a valid documentary. Caught in the middle was an ecstatic performer, elated that his '50s-style compositions were finally recorded. Fischer made several live appearances with Zappa's group, the Mothers Of Invention, but it was seven years before he recorded again. Having completed a single, advertising the Rhino Records store, he was signed to their fledgling label. Three further albums continued the disquieting atmosphere of that first release.
