King Floyd
b. 13 February 1945, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. This itinerant singer first began performing at the age of 11, but his reputation was established by several mid-60s recordings produced by Harold Battiste. Floyd's first major hit came in 1970 with the excellent Groove Me which reached the US Top 10 and he scored two further Top 5 R&B singles with Baby Let Me Kiss You (1971) and Woman Don't Go Astray (1972). He continued to enjoy limited success throughout the first half of that decade, but Body English, released in 1976, was his last chart entry to date.
