Femme Fatale
This American quintet formed in Alberquerque, New Mexico, in 1987. However, it did not take long before they relocated to the bright lights of Los Angeles in the quest for wider exposure and A&R attention from record companies. Fronted by Lorraine Lewis, they were quickly snapped up by MCARecords who assigned Jim Faraci (of L.A. Guns fame) as producer. Musically, they strived to corner the same market as Bon Jovi, relying on a pop-metal/hard rock crossover approach. In interviews Lewis repeatedly stated her objective was to be the biggest ‘pin up girl’ in rock. The band, completed by Mazzi Rawd (guitar), Bill D'Angelo (guitar), Rick Rael (bass) and Bobby Murray (drums), recorded a self-titled debut album which played heavily on their vocalist's sexuality. This approach often overshadowed Lewis's genuine ability, and although it was received favourably by the critics, it was quickly consigned to the bargain bins while the band disappeared without trace. Lewis would go on to work with Roxy Petrucci (ex- Vixen) and Gina Stile (ex-Poison Dollys) in a new all-female outfit.
