Faith Hope And Charity
An R&B vocal trio from Tampa, Florida, USA. Faith Hope And Charity, with a solid background from the soul era, became a moderately successful unit during the disco period, when they married exuberant gospel-style vocals with the disco beat. Original members were lead Zulema Cusseaux, Brenda Hilliard, and Albert Bailey. After two hits on the Maxwell label in 1970, So Much Love (number 14 R&B, number 51 pop) and Baby Don't Take Your Love (number 36 R&B, number 96 pop), Cusseaux left the group in 1971. (Cusseaux built a moderately successful solo career in the early '70s under the name Zulema.) A new third member, Diane Destry, was not added until 1974, and at that time the group was signed to the RCA label under the production aegis of Van McCoy. He gave them their biggest hit in 1975 with To Each His Own (number 1 R&B, number 50 pop). Nothing they subsequently recorded came close and their last chart record was Don't Pity Me (number 20 R&B) for 20th Century in 1978. In the UK they got on the charts in 1976 with a revival of Doris Troy's old hit, Just One Look (number 38). In 1978 Destry left and Hilliard and Bailey carried on for another album before fading.
