Cyrus Faryar
b. Teheran, Iran. Faryar left his home country in 1939 and having spent several years domiciled in England, subsequently settled in Hawaii. Here he ran Honolulu's Greensleeves coffeehouse, prior to becoming a founder member of folk act the Whiskeyhill Singers. Faryar later formed the Lexington Trio which, with the addition of Jerry Yester, evolved in the Modern Folk Quartet. This influential act was dissolved in 1966, following which Cyrus guested on several albums, notably by the Stone Poneys and ‘Mama’ Cass Elliot. He narrated THE ZODIAC COSMIC SOUNDS, a popular astrologically-inspired collection issued by Elektra in 1967, and the same label was responsible for Faryar's solo albums. These adeptly blended folk and singer/songwriter styles, while the artist's sonorous voice, redolent of Fred Neil, added depth to already captivating compositions. Cyrus then retired from active performing and returned to Hawaii. However, he resumed his musical career in 1987 upon joining the reformed MFQ.
