Eire Apparent
Originally known as the People, this Irish quartet—Mike Cox (lead guitar), Ernie Graham (vocals/guitar), Chris Stewart (bass) and Dave Lutton (drums)—came to prominence in 1967 when they were signed by the Mike Jeffery/Chas Chandler management team, which they shared with Jimi Hendrix and the Soft Machine. Hendrix produced and guested on the group's sole album, SUNRISE. A crafted blend of pop and neo-psychedelia, this underrated collection featured several excellent performances, including the vibrant Yes I Need Someone. In 1968 Eire Apparent supported Hendrix on a gruelling US tour, and they split up after its completion. Ernie Graham later joined Help Yourself, before recording a solo album on which he was backed by Brinsley Schwarz. Although he did not record with them, Henry McCullough was another former member of Eire Apparent. This respected guitarist subsequently featured in the Grease Band and Wings.
