Eclection
Formed in London in 1967, Eclection took their name from the contrasting backgrounds of its original line-up. Although Mike Rosen (guitar), Kerilee Male (vocals), Georg Hultgren (bass) and Gerry Conway (drums) were not well-known figures, guitarist Trevor Lucas had established himself on the folk circuit following his arrival from Australia. The quintet used his undoubted talent to forge an imaginative folk/rock style which showed influences from both British and American sources. Kerilee Male left the group in October 1968, following the release of Eclection's debut album. Her replacement was Dorris Henderson, a black American singer who had previously recorded two folk-influenced collections with guitarist John Renbourn. A further change occurred when John Poli Palmer succeeded Mike Rosen, but the group was sadly unable to fulfil its obvious potential. In October 1969 Palmer left to join Family, and Eclection simply folded. Lucas and Conway soon resurfaced in Fotheringay, while Hultgren later changed his surname to Kajanus and found fame with the pop group Sailor. In the '70s Henderson attempted to revive Eclection with different musicians, but she was largely unsuccessful.
