The D.O.C.
b. Tray Curry, c.1970, Texas, USA. D.O.C. was once one of the world's most promising rappers, before his career was cut short by a freak automobile accident that crushed his throat and left him unable to rap. Nowadays he hangs out with Dr Dre's Dogg Pound posse and contributed to the CHRONIC set. On his debut album future Dre protégé Michelle'le was heard for the first time, alongside former NWA personnel Eazy-E, Ice Cube and MC Ren. There was a fluidity of rhythmic expression apparent on the disc which could have predicted the runaway success of subsequent Dre protégé, Snoop Doggy Dogg. It also included D.O.C.'s killer rap, Portrait Of A Masterpiece, which would grace any collection of Rap's greatest hits. Recent reports suggest that D.O.C. may soon be able to take the mic again with the aid of extensive vocal surgery.
