Taylor Dayne
b. Lesley Wunderman, 1963, Long Island, New York, USA. Dayne rose from obscurity to the top of the US pop charts in the late '80s and early '90s. Dayne listened to rock and soul music as a child and made her onstage singing debut at the age of six. In high school she took singing lessons and after graduating joined the rock band Felony followed by a new wave band called the Next, neither of which enjoyed any success. After finishing college she decided to go solo, and re-worked a ballad called Tell It To My Heart into a dance number. Arista Records signed Dayne in 1987 and took the single to the US Top 10. Her next three singles, Prove Your Love, I'll Always Love You and Don't Rush Me also made the Top 10, although the album from which they were culled, also titled TELL IT TO MY HEART, just missed the Top 20. On release in the UK, the first two singles both reached the Top 10. Her second album, CAN'T FIGHT FATE (1989), found Dayne cultivating a more sultry, less teen-oriented image. The album reached the US Top 30 and yielded four more hit singles for Dayne: the US Top 5 With Every Beat Of My Heart, Love Will Lead You Back, I'll Be Your Shelter and Heart Of Stone.
