Dread Zone
This UK Trance-dub club duo comprise Greg Roberts (ex-BAD, Screaming Target), Leo Williams and Tim Bran. Roberts is responsible for rhythms and sampling, Bran for programming and other feats of technology. Part of Dread Zone's distinctive charm is drawn from Roberts' appetite for cult films, many of his samples being taken from this field. Dialogue from b-movies (often to avoid the problems of copyright clearance) being a particular favourite. However, their dub credentials were ensured by the arrival of the single, House Of Dread. This came complete with a Howard Marks remix—the latter being among the world's most famous cannabis traffikers. Zion Youth broached the UK top 40 in 1995 and was followed by an excellent second album SECOND LIGHT.
