Darryl Duncan
Duncan was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA where he formed the funk group Cashmere in the mid-70s. Leaving the band before their chart successes on the Philly World label, he concentrated on songwriting, composing the attractive ballad Simply Beautiful for Jerry Butler in 1982, and collaborating with artists like Chaka Khan and Maurice White. Moving to Los Angeles in 1986, he produced an album for Foxy Records, and opened his own recording career with a track on Motown's POLICE ACADEMY IV film soundtrack. He signed a full-scale deal with Motown in 1987, and won immediate acclaim for the tribute single ‘ James Brown (Part 1)’, and for the mix of funk and soul styles on his self-produced debut album.
