Brian Davidson
b. 25 May 1942. Drummer Davidson was a founder member of the Mark Leeman Five, a respected, London-based, '60s R&B group. On their collapse he joined the similarly styled Habits, before accepting an invitation to replace Ian Hague in the Nice. Initially formed to back singer P.P. Arnold, the band had broken away to pursue an independent, and latterly successful, career. The Nice split up in 1970, following which Davidson formed Every Which Way, but this short-lived attraction completed one album before the drummer joined Patrick Moraz and former colleague Lee Jackson in Refugee, a thinly veiled attempt at re-creating the Nice. The trio's only collection was issued in 1974, after which Moraz joined Yes. Davidson later joined Gong, but subsequently dropped out of full-time music in favour of teaching drum technique in schools and workshops and ‘occasionally’ playing modern jazz with the Nick Stephens Septet.
