Stuart Colman
b. Harrogate, Yorkshire, England. An important figure in British rock ‘n’ roll and record production first came to prominence as a member of Pinkertons Assorted Colours in 1966. Together with vocalist Tony Newman he was recruited for live gigs for Tony Macauley and Geoff Stevens’ project Flying Machine who experienced an unexpected US Top 5 hit with Smile A Little Smile For Me in 1969. He later resurfaced as a BBC radio broadcaster. He has long been a champion of the cause for more authentic rock ‘n’ roll on radio, and marched to the Houses of Parliament with a deputation in 1976. He has an impressive catalogue as record producer and much of Shakin’ Stevens success can be attributed to Colman. Additionally he has worked with a number of acts including the Blasters, Cliff Richard, Phil Everly, Alvin Stardust, the Jets, the Inmates and in 1986 he produced one of his all-time heroes, Little Richard.
