Joe Carter
b. 6 November 1927, Midland, Georgia, USA. In 1952 Carter settled in Chicago and is chiefly known as an Elmore James-styled slide guitarist and singer, although he can also play in a more modern vein. Carter made his only full album for the Barrelhouse label in 1976, though he has had numerous tracks released by JSP, MCM and Red Lightnin’; he also appeared in the BBC television documentary series THE DEVILS'S MUSIC. In the late '70s he toured Europe, billed on some appearances as Elmore James Junior and continues to play the clubs around Chicago as one of the city's few remaining slide guitarists in the traditional style.
