Cubanate
Confrontational English metal duo, aesthetically likened to the Henry Rollins Band, who managed to earn death threats early in their careers after calling a Belfast audience 'cocksuckers'. The other half of Cubanate's ability to infuriate and upset resides in their musical approach, which utilizes samplers and DAT alongside guitar riffs and hardcore techno percussion (though in their early touring forays with Carcass they were unable to present a further live percussionist and guitarist due to financial restrictions). Marc Heal (vocals/programming) and Phil Barry (guitar) nevertheless managed to sustain quite an impression on their own, with a musical hybrid similar but more extreme than that engendered by central Europeans Front 242 and KMFDM. This first came to public attention via the striking Bodyburn single. They offered fuller exposition of this creed on their debut album, recorded in just six days and on a budget of £4,000.
