Bobby Caldwell
b. 15 August 1951, New York City, New York, USA. As a former percussionist with blues/rock guitarist Johnny Winter in the early '70s, Bobby Caldwell first hit the US charts with the self-penned jazz ballad What You Won't Do For Love, which reached number 8 in early 1979. He played all the instruments on his self-titled album which featured the tracks Take Me Back To Then, a rhythmic slow chugger and the ballad Come To Me. His follow-up, Coming Down From Love, with a guitar riff reminiscent of George Benson running through it, narrowly missed the US Top 40 almost a year later. He wrote themes for US television, notably for the NEW MICKEY MOUSE CLUB show and also various commercials.
