The Beatmasters
This UK writing and production team consist of Richard Walmsley (b. 28 September 1962), Amanda Glanfield and Paul Carter, and were initially most famous for their work with Betty Boo (b. Alison Clarkson) on tracks like Hey DJ, I Can't Dance (To The Music You're Playing). Among their other chart coups were the Cookie Crew's breakthrough hit, Rok Da House (number 5), Yazz's Stand Up For Your Love Rights (number 2), and MC Merlin's Who's In The House (number 8). They also worked on the P.P. Arnold comeback hit, Burn It Down. This production line of pop hits won them few critical admirers, but their methodology had been honed when Glanfield and Carter spent time working on television commercial jingles for a production house (Brook Street's Get A Job among them). Although they fell short of the commercial knack of Stock Aitken & Waterman, they did manage notable hits under their own steam like 1988's Burn It Up. A second album for Rhythm King saw guest appearances from JC001 and MC Precious. The group enjoyed something of a creative renaissance with Boulevard Of Broken Dreams in 1991, built on Young Holt Unlimited's Light My Fire, after lacklustre efforts like I Dunno What It Is.
