Randy Brown
Memphis born and raised vocalist (and brother of William Brown of Mad Lads' fame) who signed with Stax Records shortly before its demise, recording one album which finally saw the light of day once he had established a name for himself. He re-surfaced on Parachute in 1978, with WELCOME TO MY ROOM, written and produced by former Stax-stalwarts Homer Banks and Carl Hampton, aimed fairly and squarely at the late-night seductive soul market then in vogue. Despite critical acclaim and the enforced absence of competition such as Marvin Gaye and Isaac Hayes, two further albums failed to penetrate the market and Brown slipped back into obscurity. He was last sighted in 1988 with an EP, ARE YOU LONELY, for Three Way Records.
