Glenn Branca
Avant garde composer/musician Branca emerged from New York's no-wave scene of the late '70s. Although several contemporaries experimented with punk and deconstructed jazz, this artist preferred developing symphonies for guitar, wherein specially developed instruments employed a radical tuning system designed to accentuate the intervals between ‘true’ notes on a scale. During the '80s Branca established the Neutral label which served as an early outlet for Sonic Youth. This innovative group was formed following the recording of SYMPHONY NUMBER 3 on which three future members, Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon and Lee Ranaldo, participated. Branca conducted an ensemble of 10 guitars plus keyboards, bass and drums on SYMPHONY NUMBER 6 which confirmed the imaginative skills of this gifted talent.
