Brownmark
b. Mark Brown, 1962, Minneapolis, Minesota, USA. Bassist Brown was playing with his high school band Fantasy when he was spotted by Prince during a performance in Minneapolis in 1981. Prince offered him a place in his back-up band, the Revolution, on their tour with the The Rolling Stones that summer. Adopting the name Brown Mark (later one word), he remained with the Revolution until 1986, appearing on every Prince album from CONTROVERSY to SIGN ‘O’ THE TIMES. He also founded the funk band Mazarati, writing and producing most of their debut album. When Prince dissolved the Revolution, Brownmark concentrated on production work for Stacy Lattislaw, Chico DeBarge, Lakesideand Mirage, before recording his own solo debut, an enchanting pop-funk concoction which spawned a US hit single, Next Time.
