Brotherhood
London-based hardcore hip hop trio comprising Spice, Dexter and Shylock, which actually began in the mid-80s. At that time it was a 15-piece collaboration between mixed-race DJs, breakdancers, graffiti artists and rappers. Eventually the line-up was trimmed to its present number, who originally recorded under an eye-catching moniker, the Jewish Public Enemy. They released a solitary 1991 single, Descendants Of The Holocaust, before two of the group left, leaving Shylock as the only original member. He added Spice and Dexter, refining their formula to ‘hip hop with punk attitude and energy’. Their hard edged sound was unveiled on a single, Wayz Of The Wize, and the XXIII EP. They also contributed Crashin' The System, which sampled Phil Collins' In The Air Tonight, to a compilation album. This sample presumably had been cleared, as it was released on Collins' label, Virgin.
