Boyz II Men
This versatile close harmony teenage soul group were a major success in the USA during the early '90s with a Top 3 debut single Motownphilly. They comprise Wanya ‘Squirt’ Morris (b. c.1974), Michael ‘Bass’ McCary (b. c.1972), Shawn ‘Slim’ Stockman (b. c.1973), and Nathan ‘Alex-Vanderpool’ Morris (b. c.1972). They met at the Philadelphia High School Of Creative And Performing Arts, forming the band in 1988. Michael Bivins of Bell Biv Devoe has taken them under his wing and brought them, fittingly, to Motown. Their debut album is one side dance, one side ballad, and was a huge seller in the USA . By the middle of 1993 the album was still high on the US chart with sales over 7 million copies. The formula was repeated with uncanny accuracy in 1994 their follow up imaginatively titled II was a maasive hit and less than a year later it has sold 8 million copies in the USA. Motown have at last found the band they have been desperately seeking since the demise of the Jacksons and the departure of Michael Jackson to Epic.
