Born Jamericans
Washington DC-based dancehall reggae/rap duo, comprising Edley Shine (b. Horace Wayne, Washington, USA), the group's DJ (in the reggae sense) or toaster, and Natch (b. Norman Hewell, USA), a singer. Both were born in America in the mid-70s but traced parentage and musical lineage to Jamaica. Edley, in fact, developed his skills by rapping over his parents' reggae collection, and Natch too grew up on a steady diet of vocalists like Pinchers and Pliers. They met when Natch was visiting a local record shop and heard Edley rehearsing in an adjacent room. Delcicious Vinyl received a tape and promptly invited them to relocate to Los Angeles. 1994 saw a debut single, Boom Shak-A-Tack, and an album. Though they have supported Shabba Ranks on tour, they are being marketed primarily in rap terms.
