Bomb the Bass
Techno dance outfit who are a collective front for Tim Simenon (b. c.1968, Brixton, London, England; of Malay Chinese and Scottish parents). After attending a course in studio engineering he shot to prominence in 1988 with Beat Dis, which went Top 5, where the subsequent album followed. Both Megablast and Say A Little Prayer were also Top 10 hits, the latter featuring Maureen Walsh, who would go on to her own solo career, beginning with a cover of Sister Sledge's Thinking Of You for Urban. Simenon then worked with Neneh Cherry (producing her hits Buffalo Stance and Manchild). After completing work on his new studio he took up production duties for an album by Prince sidekick Cat. Co-production on Adamski's Killer and the Seal single Crazy followed. However, feeling aggrieved at the lack of credit and financial recompense he gained from these ventures, he returned to Bomb The Bass. His timing was less than apt, as the 1991 Gulf War made continued use of the name indelicate. He reverted to his own name instead for the single Love So True, co-written with bass player Doug Wimbush ( Sugarhill Gang, Tackhead) and vocalist Loretta Heywood. By this time he was also working extensively with guitarist Kenji Suzuki, in addition to a myriad of guest vocalists. Bomb The Bass returned in 1994 with a new album while Simenon unveiled his own label, Stoned Heights, through Island.
