UK band Blue Pearl enjoyed some success in the '90s with their Naked In The Rain hit. Its incisive pop instincts were matched by an album, which featured cameos from Pink Floyd members Dave Gilmour and Rick Wright, alongside mainman Youth of Killing Joke and Brilliant, who wrote, played and produced. Just as the single had been, the set was notable for the attractive voice of Durga McBroom, not least on a version of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill. Other singles like (Can You) Feel The Passion followed, but prompted a legal battle because it was based around a Youth remix of Bizarre Inc's Playing With Knives which that group had rejected. In 1993 McBroom would cease to record exclusively with Blue Pearl, teaming up with German producer Johann Bley and British remixer Ben Watkins. Her debut single was Fire Of Love on LOGIC, based on the Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia standard, Jungle High. On her trial separation, McBroom would comment: 'Being in a group is like a marriage. If you're married to the same person for a long time and you divorce you start dating again. So I've had a lot of good dates recently'.
