Apollonia 6
Apollonia 6 was the name given by Prince to the female trio
Vanity 6 after lead singer Vanity had left for a solo career. Her
replacement, Apollonia, alias Patricia Kotero, was chosen for her
physical similarity to Vanity, to provide the main love interest
in Prince's movie PURPLE RAIN. She duetted with him on the
soundtrack song Take Me With U, while Apollonia 6 was also seen
performing Sex Shooter, which became a substantial disco hit in
1985. It was included on the group's self-titled album, produced
by Prince under a pseudonym. The album also contained the
original version of Manic Monday, later a number 1 hit for the
Bangles. Apollonia 6's career faltered after the PURPLE RAIN
project, possible proof that they were never more than pawns in
Prince's creative masterplan.
