Based in Santa Rosa, California, USA, this vocal quartet was originally formed as a trio in 1958. By mid-1959 they had become a quartet with the line-up of teenagers Tom Hicks, Chuck Girard, Bob Ussery and Joe Kelly. They were taken to the successful independent label, Era Records by west coast disc jockey Dan Dillon. Their first release Little Sad Eyes was a local hit and in 1961 their second single Sacred, a sweet and innocent semi-religious song, written by Adam Ross and Bill Laundau, gave them their only Top 20 record. This classy, doo-wop-orientated pop vocal quartet also reached the US Top 40 with So This Is Love in 1962. They later recorded unsuccessfully for United Artists, Warner Brothers, Decca, Solomon and Laurie.
